Ten-man Girona go top of La Liga after draw at Almeria

Ten-man Girona moved top of La Liga despite being unable to beat struggling Almeria.

The hosts, who are bottom of the table, had the better chances but couldn't convert.

Girona's cause was not helped when Aleix Garcia sent off with 10 minutes to go after fouling Gonzalo Melero.

Almeria have not won all season but went closest to scoring when Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga denied Sergio Arribas before half-time.

Real Madrid drop to second but are just one point behind Girona with a game in hand.

They play Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup later on Sunday.
