A record peak television audience of 7.6m watched Liverpool's 2-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Arsenal on BBC One on Sunday.

The figure is a record for this stage of the competition.

The match was streamed a further two million times on BBC iPlayer.

"It's fantastic to see record audiences for coverage of the FA Cup, a competition with so much history, drama and magic," said director of BBC Sport Barbara Slater.

An average audience of almost six million for the third-round match resulted in a 44% share of viewers.

Manchester City's 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield, the BBC's other Sunday fixture, was streamed 1.3m times on iPlayer.

Aston Villa's 1-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday evening drew peak audience of 3.3m on BBC One and an average 21% share.

Slater added: "We are dedicated to providing audiences with coverage from right across the tournament, from live matches on TV and iPlayer, to TV highlights and digital clips on the BBC Sport website and social media.

"I can't wait to see what the rest of the competition has in store."
