Janice Cayman of Leicester City celebrates scoring her team's first goal during the Barclays Women's Super League match between Everton FC and Leicester City at Walton Hall Park on January 28, 2024 in LiverpoolJanice Cayman's third WSL goal of the season gave Leicester their first league win since 8 October

Leicester ended a nine-game winless run in the Women's Super League as Janice Cayman's fine curling strike clinched victory at Everton.

The Belgian midfielder spun away from a challenge early in the second half and bent the ball into the far corner.

Everton failed to respond and were left to rue earlier glaring misses from Katja Snoejis and Rikke Madsen.

A first victory since beating the same opponents in October moved Willie Kirk's side above Everton into seventh.

The Foxes, who had lost five and drawn four in the WSL since that previous 1-0 win over Everton gave them six points from their first two games, were the better side for much of the game at Walton Hall Park.

However, the hosts had the better chances with Snoejis hitting the top of the crossbar from close range from Heather Payne's pinpoint cross to the back post.

Elise Stenevik and Emma Bissell also spurned decent opportunities in the first-half, but Madsen missed the pick of them two minutes into the second. The Dane skied her shot from inside the six-yard box after Snoejis' cross had been deflected into her path.

Cayman punished Everton's wastefulness in the 53rd minute and Leicester came close to adding a second late on but Jutta Rantala's free-kick cannoned back off the bar.
